If you are following the Low FODMAP diet, it’s best to avoid anything ready-made, including condiments. Store-bought ketchup often contains onions, garlic and high-fructose sweeteners.
Ingredients
- 60ml water
- 60ml red wine vinegar
- 120ml tomato paste
- 2 tbsp garlic infused oil
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a pan and bring to a simmer over a medium heat. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. You can serve your homemade ketchup straight away or keep in a jar for up to two weeks.
We made this recipe for the family Christmas meal, so we added a dash of cinnamon. I left out the allspice in my first try (it’s not available everywhere), but I noticed that it makes all the difference.
